More Mauritians now skip the list of links and ask an AI assistant directly: “Which gym should I join in Curepipe?”, “Best car rental near the airport?”. The assistant answers with two or three names. Every week we put 12 such questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode about our own industry and record the answers, so the steps below come from what we see the engines actually use.

1. Check what AI says about you today

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode the exact questions your customers ask, in English and in French. Write down who gets named and which websites the answer cites. That list is your competition and your map.

2. Let the AI crawlers in

If your website blocks the robots ChatGPT and other assistants use to read pages, you cannot be quoted. Check your robots.txt and your security settings for OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and PerplexityBot, and add a short llms.txt file that summarises who you are, what you sell and where.

3. Fix your Google Business Profile and collect genuine reviews

In our checks, Google AI Mode builds many of its Mauritius answers straight from Google Maps listings, and the number of reviews weighs heavily. A complete profile with photos, hours, services and a steady flow of real reviews is the single biggest lever for most local businesses.

4. Put clear answers on your own pages

Start each important page with a two or three sentence answer to the question it targets, add a short FAQ, show the date it was last updated, and add schema markup. AI assistants quote pages that answer directly.

5. Be listed where AI looks

For “best agency” or “best provider” questions in Mauritius, ChatGPT often cites directories and comparison sites such as GoodFirms, Sortlist and local business directories. A complete profile there, in the right category, with reviews, puts your name in the material the AI reads.

6. Publish specific proof

Numbers, dated results, real client names with permission, prices if you publish them. AI engines prefer facts they can repeat with confidence over slogans.

7. Check again every month

AI answers change from week to week. Ask the same questions each month, note what changed, and fix what is missing. Moves of one or two places can be noise; trust changes that hold for two checks in a row.
